Aurora photo blog from Churchill

Brad Josephs got his dream shot last night with a group of Natural Habitat travelers.

The aurora have been incredible lately in Churchill though temperatures have been frigidly cold…around 50 below zero.

Avoiding frostbite is part of the thrill of being in this environment.

These photographs are from the latest Natural Habitat groups in Churchill over the last two weeks. Brad Josephs has been braving the frigid temperatures to lead groups of avid travelers through the Churchill region to discover the feel for the north as well as the amazing and mysterious aurora borealis. Seems to be all working out for the groups. The aurora have been some of the best seen in years. With temperatures ranging from -17 to -65 F, it hasn’t been an easy task to brave the elements and observe and photograph. However, it has been worth a little pain as even the locals in Churchill have said that these recent displays have been some of the best they have ever seen! More to come..stay tuned!!

Aurora Borealis on fire in Churchill

Guide Brad Josephs is in Churchill for Natural Habitat Adventures. Last night he reveals was one of the best ever aurora displays he has witnessed in his illustrious career as an outdoor adventure guide. Below is an excerpt from his report from the field. Stay tuned to churchillpolarbears.org for more news from the far north and the Hudson Bay village of Churchill, MB. Should be another amazing month of northern lights adventures.

Photo: Guiding natural habitat aurora trips- ive seen some lights in my days, but last night in churchill was top 5 in my life. they were moving so fast 5 second exposure still blurred them. at times we thought they were gonna swipe down and zap us. yeah, you could have read a book by them. we probably could have heard them, but all you could hear was people moaning in awe. i got some timelapse material ill put together later, as stills just dont do this justice. even that wont, you just had to be there! what a way to start the first night of a trip, and it was only -17 f, no wind, and we only had to stay out till 2 am!!!! doesnt get any better than that! Natural Habitat travelers enjoyed igloo building in Churchill, Manitoba and got the true northern flavor of survival in the Arctic. The season has more groups than ever before and travelers are excited to get a feel for living in the far north on the shores of the Hudson Bay.

Aurora season coming soon

Churchill, Manitoba is one of the best places in the world to view the incredible night-time displays of aurora borealis.…or “northern lights”. February and March will have 10 or more Natural Habitat Adventures groups venturing north to experience the Arctic feel and see the lights. Here are some photo’s from some Nat Hab guides that rank among the best I have seen over the years. Also, watch for regular blog posts once the season begins up north for all the groups.
