Check out this awesome and rare shot of a seal mom and pup under the ice near their den. Voracious polar bears spend the winter months searching the ice pack for these animals and spend countless hours just trying to track them down. Pat Qulaut got lucky and snapped this sweet photo near Igloolik out on the ice! The far north provides incredible views into nature’s realm.
This awesome video filmed by National Geographic in Svalbard, Norway of a polar bear family emerging from their den, roaming around hunting seals is just the calming visual we need at this time of turmoil in our world. We have been seeing polar bear sow’s with cubs of the year this polar bear season in Churchill and they have provided quite the experience for travelers to the north. Enjoy!
This photograph from a helicopter over Wapusk National Park is a tremendous look at a polar bear den. Sheltered in a stand of spruce trees to break the wind, this is the ideal spot for a sow polar bear to have cubs. This den will be used every year for an extended period. Wapusk is the prime destination for polar bears to actively den and have cubs.
