It was selected as the grand prize winner out of 20,000 submissions in an international photo contest and was on display for a year at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington , DC. After another awesome polar bear season in Churchill and the return of train service to the outpost on the Hudson Bay, this image captures the positive feeling of the people and vibe in Churchill. Looking forward to this good fortune continuing into the winter and beyond.

Polar bear season 2018 is in the history books following quite the incredible season. Aside from the late freezing of the Hudson Bay, the Arctic wildlife was tremendously abundant throughout the six week season in Churchill and the surrounding region. Snow came early and polar bears roamed the frozen tundra of the Churchill Wildlife Management Area. These magnificent images by Natural Habitat Adventures amazing guide Drew Hamilton are some of the best of the season. Enjoy!

Manitoba Sustainable Development has issued the weekly Polar Bear Statistics for November 5-11. Hudson Bay is beginning to see some ice formation and some polar bears are starting to explore and test their winter seal hunting grounds. Caution is advised for all travelers to remain aware as curious polar bears are still in the area.

The Churchill polar bear cam is focused on the tundra around Churchill, Manitoba where polar bears are resting and waiting for sea ice to form on Hudson Bay. Keep tuned in to catch all the exciting polar bear action as well as other Arctic wildlife in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area! With the heart of the season yet to come we are in for one of the most successful polar bear seasons ever for Churchill!

The 2019 Hudson Bay Quest dogsled race will be reinstated next March riding, literally albeit hopefully, of the Hudson Bay Railroad. The vital lifeline that links Churchill and Gillam needs to be up and running in order to pull off the logistical operations for the race. Crucial supplies, officials as well as dog teams and emergency workers shuttle between the two towns and drops at checkpoints occur as well.
Both the 2017 and 2018 Hudson Bay quests were cancelled due to track washouts.
Registration, which opens November 01 at 12:00:01 (noon) CST, will be capped at 12 racers this year. The rail line between Gillam and Churchill is essential for moving race officials, supplies and dropped dogs/scratched teams. The rail is anticipated to be operational in time for our March 15, 2019 start date in Gillam, MB.
