Sometimes hump day can be tough. Relax and take it easy like this polar bear family in Wapusk National Park just east of Churchill, Manitoba. This photo was taken by Daisy Gilardini in the polar bear denning area of Wapusk. Polar bears congregate in Churchill throughout late summer into the fall while waiting for the Hudson Bay to freeze. The denning area of Wapusk National Park is home to mothers and cubs during the deep freeze of winter. Only a few brave souls venture into this region. Churchill is the polar bear capital of the world and the best place to see these unique and majestic animals.

Rolf Steinmann, a German cameraman, has directed In Between, which unveils the sights and sounds of the muskoxen and its unforgiving natural habitat in the far north.
Commitment, patience and hard work combined to produce an amazing look into the isolated life of the muskox. Weeks and even months at a time were spent filming segments of the movie. The majority of the on-site locations were in uninhabited regions of the north where only beings able to cope with the harsh cold conditions have the ability to exist. “By spending lots of time in the field I try to immerse deeply into the animal’s world,” he writes on his website.
Muskoxen are the undisputed king ( move over polar bears) of some of these enchanting yet grueling regions!
This great photo of a Churchill polar bear was taken by longtime patron of our website and polar bear enthusiast Susan Rummel. Susan got this shot when she fulfilled her dreams of a journey to Churchill this past fall. What an adventure and what a shot! Way to go Susan!
This pretty cool photo taken at the 82nd parallel just at the edge of the ice pack in the Arctic Circle. Photographer Josh Anon was in the right spot to catch the sun’s angle in the polar bear’s breath. The bear was one of a group holding court over a recent seal kill as Anon snapped the shot from a small boat. The polar bears lingered through the night and the group was able to spend some more time capturing their images in the early morning light.

In the constant search for the cutest polar bear video ever made, this one could reign as the current champion. The Columbus Zoo really doesn’t know what polar bears dream about nor do we here at churchilpolarbears.org. However, we all do know when we see a pretty cool and adorable polar bear video. Just when you thought we couldn’t find anything better than the one before, we come up with another. Enjoy!
